ATMOS Harlem NYC

Monday, May 17th, 2010

This month I took a trip to NYC and I was on a hunt for a exclusive spot for sneakers and I stumbled across the ATMOS sneaker spot in Harlem. This sneaker spot was DOPE, their selection was nice and their staff was very pleasant to work with. The ATMOS sneaker store was rated No. 16 on the list of  best places to get DOPE sneakers. If you ever go to NYC, please support the ATMOS in Harlem!

Plaid Played Out: “Evolution of Young Black Male Style”

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Growing up in the DMV, urban wear such as “Solbiato and “Bonidacci” have always been apart of the everyday apparel but recently young black males have made a huge transformation when it comes to fashion. Starting around 2000 the urban wear was seen in every part of the DMV and people where considered “fresh” for doing it. The younger generations have always made what is popular to wear on the block and older generations follow suit.

Fashion for males has evolved from urban wear, to fitted black label shirts, to now plaid like shirts sold in stores like H&M, Urban Outfitters, and American Eagle to just name a few. If you have not realized it yet, wake up, it is now 2010 and baggy clothes are the thing of the past. Young men now rather replicate the dressing style of Chris Brown and Drake rather than 50 cent and Snoop Dogg. In with the fitted apparel and out with the tall tees and baggy jeans. Along with the transformation of clothes for males, haircuts also play a role in the overall look seeked to duplicate which include late 80’s and earlier 90’s. Young black men have been seen cutting the dreads and sporting the part, hightop fade and myself even the trendy faded in mohawk.

Ending I would like to think with the evolution of fashion and hairstyles hopefully the mindset will also evolve within the black community.

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Everyone wants to be like Mike! We all know Michael Jordan is known as one of the greatest of all time when it comes to basketball. Great players of today like Kobe Bryant and Lebron James try to learn the techniques of Michael Jordan and strive to be like him on the court.

Along with his extraordinary expertise on the court, Michael Jordan was a smart business man. He branded his name as something and someone everyone wanted to be. Since the release of his first pair of shoes in 1985, the Jordan Brand has been a favorite of people from every continent. People have been known to wait outside of stores for hours for the popular Jordan shoe of their choice. This is done because some of the shoes are never released again. Some people want a particular shoe so bad that they order them off of sites that sell fake replicas of the Jordan Brand.

Holiday Style – Party in Style

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Photo provided by M.A.D. Works Photography

The holidays are always exciting - plenty of food and plenty of parties to attend, even in the freezing cold!  We’ve consulted fashion blogger Bianca Cerise to give tips on what to wear for your next holiday function.  She is pursuing her degree in Fashion Design at the Academy of Art and is working toward having her own styling firm.  “When it comes to fashion, most people just don’t know where to start,” Bianca says. Her emphasis would not be on styling the celebrities, she wants to focus on the average person.  “I want to style the soccer mom, the stay-at-home-wife, or just someone who is looking to get back out into the scene.  I just like to shop and do things for others.”  For now, Bianca styles various local photo shoots and blogs daily on DC Little Black Blog, which she started because she describes herself as being very opinionated on anything regarding fashion.  But when it comes to fashion blogging, Bianca says that “people want less talk and more pictures.”  On that note, here’s the AMADI photo shoot styled by Bianca Cerise!

Update - Mother of Men Jewelry Goes Global

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Nyakinyua Gill, AMADI’s January  feature (Accessorize with Barack Obama) has taken her full jewelry line across the globe to Africa and made history!  Last month, Nya participated in the very first African Fashion Week in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Mother of Men Jewelry was featured in a show presented by Aschobi Designs, a line run by her childhood best friend, Adama Kai.  Adama, originally from Sierra Leon, spent much of her childhood in New York, studied fashion at the world renowned Parsons in Paris, France and took her designs back home.  Nya managed to put together the whole line of jewelry with Adama’s clothing line from the other side of the world.  “All the work was done via email and telephone,” says Nya of the experience.  She hopes to be apart of the event next year as well.

Check out the Mother of Men jewelry collection featured in the Aschobi Designs show and Bebenoir on www.motherofmensite.com and become a fan of Aschobi Designs on Facebook.  Read more about the first ever African Fashion Week on www.africanfashioninternational.com.

Wildchild Nation - Hip Hop Through the Perspective of Clothing

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Click to Purchase: Men’s “Wildchild Crew” tee

Wildchild Nation is not your average clothing or street wear line.  There is a true message behind the clothing, behind the name, and the inspiration for it all is music.  The line was created in New York by two Ivy league graduates, Luam Keflezgy and Traci Copeland, who left the corporate world to pursue their passion for dancing.

The women had a style all their own when it came to the clothes they wore.  They saw a great demand for their style and as struggling dancers, decided to put their creative juices to work putting together a few pieces to sell in SoHo boutiques and consignment shops.  Luam and Traci understood that in order create an official clothing line, they would need more help building a business from the ground up.  After linking up with Marc David, a college friend with an extensive background in business, Wildchild Nation was created as a high-end, urban contemporary clothing line.
