Driven Magazine strives to be “Catalyst of Motivation to Achieve” for today’s young adults.
The Man and Vision Behind Driven Magazine:
Cenell D. Harrell, graduate from Morgan State University with a degree in Business Management and minors in Marketing and finance. A distinguish man of the most prolific fraternity know to man, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
He is the founder of Driven Magazine “The Source for GenY Entrepreneurs”, and the future author of the book titled, End Result “Achieving the impossible while conquering mediocrity.” He is currently working on building a non-profit for young males “Driven 2 Succeed” and a movie “Driven Chronicles” where he interviews top successful people getting their secret to success. He also plans to attend Law School in fall 2011.
Company’s history: Driven Magazine is a new online publication solely focused on young adults and the many lifestyle choices that are open to them. It was founded in September 2009; by a set of young adults with a congenial mindset of “ACHIEVEMENT”. The Magazine is built on the assumption that there is an overwhelming need for a clearinghouse of vital information to inspire young people to explore their goals and celebrate their successes. Whether it’s an article on today’s job market or an interview with one of today’s business leaders. Our issues will feature knowledgeable information on a wide range of topics of interest to our readers on such topics as: financial management, career opportunities, and entrepreneurial, politics, education, and technology advances. The site will be written by young adults with a focus on the lifestyle issues currently facing the Millennial Generation. Driven Magazine seeks to be the online source of relevant information for the generation of students and young people currently coming into their own.
AMADI Magazine: Can you explain to the world why you named the magazine “DRIVEN”?
Wow, this is a long story, but in short; I was driving one day, and of course I was speeding to get to my destination. When I approached a stop light, it hit me: Success was my destination and I had to be DRIVEN to get there. I knew that there are like minded individuals that are DRIVEN to succeed; therefore the title “DRIVEN” was birth!
AMADI: Do you think a lot of young adults educate themselves financial management, career opportunities, entrepreneurial, politics, education, and technology advances? If not, why?
Americas economical and job conundrums, has force young adults to become more aware of what’s going on in their life. We want to know the latest bill being passed through congress, or how to better ourselves financially. In the past we (well I know I didn’t) pay attention to the minuscule aspect of our futures.
AMADI: What makes the “Millennial Generation” different from past generations or our parents generation? Do you think we have a different outlook on education, our careers, starting businesses, etc.
I call it the Obama generation, lol. We have a take charge, nothing impossible temperament, which separates us from our parents. We do not use the convention approach to things as they have done, but the unconventional approach to accomplish our goals & dreams, a contriarian mindset.
AMADI: What separates DRIVEN magazine from other business related magazines and online publications?
Driven is written by GenY entrepreneurs and young professionals. We provide meaningful content that motivates, inspires our readership. We strive to strike an emotional relationship with our visitors through our content
AMADI: How many visitors come to the DRIVEN magazine website per month? What type of marketing strategies do you use?
Even though there are so many people online, it is still a laborious task to get your site to the masses. We have accumulated 5k unique a month, since our launch date Sept 22, 2009. We started with a site, and no big promoters, and no already established brand, so it was hard to even accomplish that. But using social media has been a blessing to us. Twitter, facebook, and Digg have been free resources we use to market our site, we have over 1200 followers on twitter and over 1150 fans on facebook. Social Media is an excellent way to market your business, especially if you’re on a bootstrap budget.
AMADI: What advice would you give someone that is trying to start a magazine?
The magazine industry has dramatically changed. People are online now more than ever, and rarely engage in print media. So starting a Niche online magazine would be the best option for a novice in the industry. Also get yourself a mentor that is currently successful in the field you are attempting to penetrate. One of my mentors is the CEO of Heart & Soul Magazine; he has given me valuable advice.
AMADI: What advice would you give to someone that is fearful of starting their own business? What initial steps should one take to start their own business?
Use your fears to tackle your potential! We all have fears, but until we used those fears to become the galvanizing tool to reach our greatness, they will forever entrap us, and stunt our growth of greatness. To me being fearful is a confirmation that I can do it! The first and most important step to take in regards to starting a business is; Stop Wishing and start acting! There are so many people wasting their precious time, wishing to accomplish something or day dreaming about an idea, that they never get around to actually turning their dream into a reality. You have to have a made up mind, and everything else will follow.

This young man has taken the focused and driven spirit that he has, as demonstrated by the magazine “Driven”, and committed himself to empowering others by placing on a media accessed by young adults on a daily basis, information and opportunities they may never have been made available or accessible to them.
It gives me great pleasure and pride to see a young black man successfully striving to be an emerging motivational force to others. I’m sure the name Cenell D. Harrell is one that will be recogized by many in years to come.
