The Spirit of Giving

by Toccara Lanett

Amongst many definitions, the spirit of the holidays can mean spending time with loved ones, having a good time, and helping those who are less fortunate.  Here is a man working this holiday season, and every season, to help fulfill all three in one fell swoop.  Mitch Mathis is the CEO of Dream Team, LLC an event planning and marketing company in Washington, DC.  Every week, Mitch and his team work hard to provide at least four events for the young socialites of the DC area to kick back and enjoy themselves.  Occasionally, and very often, these events benefit Pediatric HIV/ AIDS Care, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides education, therapy, and programs to children living with HIV/AIDS.

The Ocean’s Eleven Themed Labor Day Pool Party Event held at the Capitol Skyline Hotel was just one of many events held by Dream Team, LLC to support Pediatric HIV/AIDS Care, Inc

Mitch, who currently serves on the Board for the organization, says that once he reached a certain level with promoting his events, he felt the need to do more.  “I like working with kids, and AIDS is a huge issue in the DC area,” he says of his initial interest in working with Pediatric HIV/AIDS Care. Supporting a cause also means taking action.  So Mitch sought help from a friend who was already serving on the Board of the foundation.  He guided Mitch in gaining valuable experience in volunteering, hosting events, branding and marketing the foundation, and of course, working with the kids who benefit from all of the efforts.

Are you interested in supporting a cause, but don’t know where to start?

Tips from Mitch
-Volunteer with several different organizations, even if it’s just one event.  That way you can get a feel for the people you will be working with.
-Make sure your heart in is your efforts.  That will make the experience much more
satisfying while you are making a difference in others’ lives.

The next event supporting Pediatric HIV/AIDS Care, Inc. will be held on December 17th, 2009 at Teatro Goldini Restaurant on 19th and K St. in Northwest Washington, DC.
